How is tx of AIHA?

➢ The initial treatment is to diagnose and treat the underlying cause or remove offending agents. ➢ If this is not possible, corticosteroids such as prednisone are often used. ➢ In patients who relapse after corticosteroid cessation or who are refractory to corticosteroids, rituximab is usually used as a second-line drug. ➢ Other treatments include use of additional immunosuppressive drugs and/or splenectomy. About one third to one half of patients have a sustained response after splenectomy.
