Pyogenic abscesses : the most common organisms isolated from are Escherichia coli, Klebsiella,and Proteus. Amebic abscesses are classically described as “anchovy paste” in appearance and are caused by Entamoeba histolytica, which gains access to the liver via the portal vein from intestinal amebiasis.
