• Clean and moisten skin with alcohol swab • Collect scale with #15 scalpel blade • Put scale on center of glass slide • Add drops of KOH and coverslip; heat slide gently or wait 10 minutes • Microscopy: scan at 10X to locate hyphae; then study in detail at 40X if needed
