While some segments of society thrived during Weimar Germany, others struggled. The Nazis found support among groups like peasant farmers and middle-class shopkeepers who felt left behind by economic progress. With about 35% of the population still rural, many felt excluded from prosperity. The Nazis appealed to peasants, promising aid and praising them as racially pure Germans. They contrasted rural simplicity with urban decadence, gaining support from conservatives who viewed Weimar culture as immoral.
