• Variable in size, yellowish • It protrudes into the lumen of the artery. • It is often calcified. • Its section shows a lipid center, made up of foam cells and slits of cholesterol crystals, surrounded by a fibrous sheath. • The fibrous sheath is made up of collagen fibers enclosing smooth muscle cells. • T cells are also observed. • The endothelium covering the plaque is intact.
