-naturalistic / covert field -patients and staff from 12 hospitals from 5 states of the USA -IV= hospitial or uni dv=how the patients were treated -8 sane patients went in as psuedo patients went in acted normal and recorded how they was treat in a journal -one diagnosed with schizophrenia in remission -normal bhv were recored as serious illnesses -other paitients could tell the patients were normal
