- Wall of artery has many layers - Endothelium usually smooth + unbroken - If damage occurs to endothelium WBC, lipids build up + harden - Forming fatty streaks - Atheroma forms - Plaque partially blocks artery lumen - Restricts blood flow - Increasing blood pressure
