- Clip slide that has been prepared on the stage - Select lowest-powered objective lens - Use coarse adjustment knob to bring shape up to just below the objective lens - Look down eyepiece, move coarse + fine adjustment knob to focus it - To increase magnification, swap to a higher-powered objective lens and focus
