Lactose

RNA polymerase is inhibited in the presence of lactose. Sugar binds to repressor causing a conformational change to the molecule. Repressor operator interaction readies structural gene to be translated. In absence of lactose the repressor gene encodes a molecule that blocks transcription of structural genes.
