| Pole sign | sign supported by 1+ pole and separated from the ground by air. Separated from the building or other structures |
| Ground signs (low profile) | entire bottom is in contact with or in close proximity from the ground. They are separate from the building. |
| Wall signs | painted on or flush with the wall of a building. |
| Roof signs | Freestanding sign on a rooftop or anything that extends above the top of the highest wall that does not project horizontally |
| Canopy & Awnings | signs & traditional canvas awning signs on canvas / signs on a canopy & translucent plastic canopies that have letters/logos on a lighted background |
| Projecting sign | Sign installed perpendicular to /at an angle from a bldg wall. Local regulations require clearance requirements and that the owner have insurance |
| Suspended signs | sign hanging down from porch/other structural element that would exist without the sign. Often duplicate the address/nameplates and overhang a public sideawlk - which requires clearance and insurance |
| Marquee signs | Manually changeable text/images with large display (like gas station price signs) |

| Billboard | sign located on a zone lot not containing a bldg and in the ordinance includes sign size limitation pertaining to building floor area |

| Removal of signs | Citys may require abandoned signs to be removed in a certain timeframe (30 days) All damaged/unsafe signs must also be removed within a certain period of time. |
