Level 2 -SELECTED CHEMICALS CAUSING SKIN BURNS
level: Level 2 -SELECTED CHEMICALS CAUSING SKIN BURNS
Questions and Answers List
level questions: Level 2 -SELECTED CHEMICALS CAUSING SKIN BURNS
Question
Answer
1 Potent skin corrosive. Contact with compressed gas can cause frostbite. 2 Severe chemical burns. Extremely exothermic reaction - dissolving in water can cause heat burns.
1 Ammonia 2 Calcium oxide (CaO)
1 Liquid and concentrated vapors cause cell death and ulceration. 2 Solutions and vapors may burn. Compressed gas can cause frostbite
1 Chlorine 2 Ethylene oxide
1 Severe burning with scar formation. 2 Severe, painful, slowly healing burns from high concentration. Lower concentration causes delayed cutaneous injury. Systemic absorption can lead to electrolyte abnormalities and death. Calcium-containing topical medications and quaternary ammonium compounds are used to limit damage.
1 Hydrogen chloride (HCl) 2 Hydrogen fluoride (HF)
1 High concentration causes severe burns and blistering. 2 Liquid exposure produces blistering, deep burns.
1 Hydrogen peroxide 2 Methyl bromide
1 Moist skin facilitates the formation of nitric acid causing severe yellow-colored burns. 2 White phosphorus continues to burn
1 Nitrogen oxides 2 Phosphorus
1 Extremely corrosive even in low concentrations. Systemic absorption through burn sites may result in cardiac arrhythmias, renal disease, and death. 2 High concentration causes deep burns, readily denatures keratin.
1 Phenol 2 Sodium hydroxide
Severe burns with contact. Skin contact rarely may result in respiratory sensitization.
Toluene diisocyanate
