Question
Answer
➢ Composed of solid, liquid or gas particles in a continuous phase which can be a solid, liquid or gas. ➢ The particles of one substance is usually distributed or dispersed in another substance without dissolving or they do not combine to form a solution ➢ Particle size – 1nm – 0.5um or 500 nm
COLLOIDAL DISPERSION/SOL
➢ Has colloidal system consisting of a very finely subdivided liquid or solid dispersed and surrounded by gas ➢ The product depends upon the power of liquefied or compress gas to dispense their active ingredient into a finely dispersed mist, a foam or a semisolid
Aerosol
Types of Aerosol:
• Space sprays – it has an active ingredient with a particle size of less than 50 um. Ex. Lysol • Surface sprays – 50-200um • Foams – much bigger in size, more than 200um. Ex. shaving cream
– it has an active ingredient with a particle size of less than 50 um. Ex. Lysol
Space sprays
50-200um
Surface sprays
much bigger in size, more than 200um. Ex. shaving cream
Foams
Components of AEROSOLS
1. Product concentrate – active ingredient 2. Propellant – serves as a gas
AEROSOL GASES:
1 Chlorofluorocarbon(CFC) 2 Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) 3 Hydrocarbons 4 Compressed Gases
Chlorofluorocarbon(CFC) examples
1 Trichloromonofluoromethane, 2 Dichlorodifluoromethane, 3 Dichlorotetrafluoroethane
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) examples
1 Chlorodifluoromethane, 2 Trifluoromonofluoroethane, 3 Chlorodifluoroethane, 4 Difluoroethane, 5 Heptafluoropropane
Hydrocarbons examples
Propane, Isobutane, Butane
Compressed Gases examples
nitrogen, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide
