Question
Answer
This glycosidal formations are common in plants They are hydrolyzed by treatment with acid or alkali into glycone and aglycone portion
Oxygen (O-glycosides)
The occurrence of this glycoside is restricted to isothiacyanate glycoside like sinigrin in black mustard formed by condensation of sulphohydryl group aglycone to OH group of glycone.
Sulphur (S-glycoside)
The most common representation is the nucleoside where the amino group reacts with OH group of ribose or deoxyribose resulting into this
Nitrogen (N-glycoside)
Example of this type of glycoside are some of the anthraquinone glycoside like cascaroside in cascara, aloin in aloes.
Carbon (C-glycoside)
For purposes of biochemistry and pharmacology, this is the most useful classification.
Chemical nature of the aglycone.
O-glycosides are common in examples of what plant?
1 Rhubarb 2 Senna
C-glycosides examples
1 Cascarosides in cascara 2 Aloin in aloes
1 S-glycoside examples 2 N-glycoside examples
1 Sinigrin in black mustard 2 Nucleosides
