| What is episodic memory? | Long term memory store of personal events, when the event occured (time stamped), the poeple, objects, place and behaviour involved. Memories are reterieved consicously and with effort.

| What is semantic memory? | Knowledge of the world, facts and our knowledge of what words and concepts mean. (combination of encyclopedia and a dictionary).
Not time stamped, less personal, they have to be deliberatley recalled.

| What is procedural memory? | Long term memory store of knowledge of 'how to do' things. Learned skills. Recall memory without making a consious or deliberate effort. |

| A strength of types of LTM? | Allows for furthur research due to usefulness and real life application. Ageing cuases memory loss, distinguishing different types of ltm can allow for specific area support. Improve the quality of life and make memory less less severe. Though, there is still no cure, still has to undergo lots of research and progess |
| A strength of types of LTM? | Research support from HM. Can't have new semantic and episodic memories but still has procedural memoires. Supports the idea of different parts of the brain for LTM. Understand different types of nuerological damage. Hard to apply to everyone though, its a case study and a damaged brain |

Suffered from viral encephalitis in the hippocampus and is unable to form new semantic and episodic memory. Procedural memory is still in tact, shows the seperate stores. But its a case study so not generalisable. |
| A weakness of the types of LTM? | Contradictory research from Buckner and Pertersen. Found that semantic was on the left of the pre-frontal cortex and episodic was on the right. This was from nueromaping. Contradicts the research, unclear where the long term memory stores actually are - lowers validity. But this was in 1996, nueromaping was in the infancy stage, repeated now might not get the same results. |
