What was/is/will the Trend with:
1. Fossil Fuels
2. Nuclear | 1. Was always the Traditional Method and is still High at the Moment, but will soon Phase out thanks to Climate Change or just None Left
2. Increasing since 1950s but Uranium, Source of Nuclear, will Run Out as well |
How can we Increase Fossil Fuels Supplies? | -Searching for new Reserves or Looking into Reserves that have been Found but not yet Tapped
-Technology Increasing will lead to more Options of Exploiting Possible as Technology allows Less Costs - Fracking |
How, and why would we, Increase Nuclear? Why may we not choose this option? | -Small Fuel Amount = Large Amount of Energy
-Expensive to make and Decommission. Nuclear Waste a huge Concern and Accidents like Chernobyl are well hmm
-Technology, again, can Improve Efficiency of the Power Plant
-Breeder Reactors make more Fuel as they Function - leading to Nuclear being more Renewable |
How does Fracking Work? Where is this Happening? | -Liquid pumped into Shale Rock with lots of Pressure & Force --> Rock will Crack --> Releases Gas --> Collected at the Top.
-Near Blackpool, a Fracking site was about to Happen. Thanks to a Mini Earthquake and Various Safety Concerns, Extraction stopped for a Time Period |
Advantages of Fracking? | -Shale Gas seen in the UK - Lots in Fact. 5 Mil m³ near Lancashire
-Energy Security of UK will Increase - Essential when other Sources of Energy Decline
-Gas is quite 'Clean' - makes Half the Carbon Dioxide that Coal does
-Fracking is Cheaper than Renewable Sources [some of them]
-Technology in Texas has been Tested and it Works!!!! |
Disadvantages of Fracking? | -Gas is not Sustainable Energy Source - so Climate Change will have another Contributor
-Fracking may lead to Pollution of Groundwater, Drinking-water and the Air
-Lots of Water needed
-Small Earthquakes may Occur from Fracking - 2.9 Magnitude hit near Blackpool's Fracking Site
-People do not like Fracking in the UK. Protests and Arguments can happen
-Investing in Fracking = Less Investment for Renewables |
