level questions: Stopping Distance and Reaction Times

QuestionAnswer
What is the Stopping Distance?-This simply is the Distance that the Vehicle Takes to STOP the Car -It has Thinking Distance and Breaking Distance Involved.
What is the Thinking Distance? How can it be Influenced?-This is the Distance in which the Vehicle Takes in the Drivers Reaction Time [Noticing the Hazard and ABOUT to Break] -Reaction Time can Affect the Thinking Distance, in which is Affected by Tiredness, Alcohol, Drugs and Distractions [Music, Kids..] -Speed: If your going Faster then you will Travel Further during your Reaction Time - You will have Less Time to Break
What is the Breaking Distance? How can it be Influenced?-This is the Distance that the Vehicle Takes, that has the Breaks APPLIED. It can be Affected by: -Speed - going Faster will mean it needs more Distance to Stop the Car -Mass - If its a Bus full of People and Bags, then it needs more Time to Stop. -Condition of the Breaks. If its not Worn Out, or Faulty, or even not Applied Correctly then their will be Little Force -Grip of the Tyres - It will probably Skid if the Road is Icy or Wet, or if the Tyres is Bald. Remember, they need a Tread Depth of 1.6 mm.
What is the Ruler Drop Experiment? Describe it ONLY.-2 People, and a Ruler. Simple -First Person will have his Hand Open, and the Second Person will Hold the Ruler between the First Person's Thumb and Forefinger, with the Finger lined up with 0. -Second Person Drops the Ruler, with no Intention of doing so. -First Person will, hopefully, Catch the Ruler as Fast as he Can -Measurement on the Ruler, where the First Person caught it is how Far it Dropped in the Time it took for you to React. Longer the Distance = Longer the Reaction Time.
How can you Calculate the Reaction Time from the Ruler Drop Experiment?-Since the Acceleration will be Constant - 10 [Earth's GFS] we can find the Reaction Time -If Person 1 caught the Ruler at 20 cm, we can use this Formula to Proceed: v² - u² = 2 x a x d. u² = 0 because it started on 0 Speed. a = 10 because Earth's GFS. d = 20cm because that's how Far the Ruler Dropped. v = Change in Speed. v² = 2 x 10 x 0.2 [20 cm = 0.2 meters] so v² = 4 so v = 2. -And now Finally, Acceleration = Change in V / Time -10 = 2 / t so t = 2/10 so Reaction Time = 0.2s
What else can be Added into the Ruler Drop Test to make it Better, or even Investigate something Else?-Making sure you have lots of Repeats will produce an Average that will be Precise [Hopefully] -Involving Distractions and even Substances can be used to see how the Reaction Time will Change.
What usually is the Reaction Time for Humans?-There is a Range from 0.2 to 0.8. -If your Answer is in this Bracket then its Sensible. If its 24 then hmm.
