Question
Answer
The process that takes place in chloroplasts in plant cells, which converts light energy into chemical energy.
Photosynthesis
The green pigment in chloroplasts that captures light energy for photosynthesis.
Chlorophyll
The layer of cells on the outer surface of the body or organ such as a leaf.
Epidermis
Nutrients that plants and animals need in small amounts. eg nitrates that are needed for making amino acids.
Minerals (Mineral Ions)
Cells in the upper part of the leaf that contain the most chloroplasts and carry out most of the photosynthesis.
Palisade Cell
The layer of cells in the lower part of the leaf where there are many air spaces, so increasing the internal surface area to volume ratio.
Spongy Mesophyll
A polysaccharide of glucose that acts as a storage molecule in plants.
Starch
A large sugar molecule made up of lots of smaller sugar molecules.
Polysaccharide
The tiny holes on the surface of leaves (mostly the lower epidermis) which allows gas exchange to occur.
Stomata
Products of a chemical reaction that are not needed, such as oxygen in photosynthesis.
Waste Products
A type of tissue in vascular plants that transports water and some nutrients from the roots to the leaves.
Xylem
A complex tissue in vascular plants that transports suitable organic compounds (eg sucrose) up and down a plant.
Phloem
The speed at which reactants ore converted into products.
Rate of Reaction
The resource or condition which is currently preventing the rate of reaction happening faster.
Limiting Factor
Carbon Dioxide + Water ----> Glucose + Oxygen
