What is the name of the gland in the number 1 box? | Pituitary Gland |
Which 2 major body systems are also involved in the endocrine system? | Cardiovascular System - The cardiovascular system is the means whereby hormones are distributed throughout the body. Hormones function by producing their effects only when they attach to a suitable target receptor. Even though hormones circulate freely throughout the cardiovascular system, aside from the target receptors, the rest of the body’s systems are essentially unaffected by their presence Nervous System - The nervous system senses changes in either the internal or external environment. If the change requires a response, the nervous system interacts, via the hypothalamus, with the endocrine system, which produces the appropriate hormonal reaction |

How does the endocrine system/glands talk with the cells/ organs in the body? | The endocrine system is made up of a network of glands that make hormones. They are located throughout the body. Hormones are the body's chemical messengers. They carry information and instructions from one set of cells to another. The endocrine system is a system of glands that secrete hormones into the blood stream to regulate a variety of bodily functions. These are delivered to receptors in the target cells/organs. The endocrine system is responsible for regulating multiple bodily functions to stabilise the body's internal and external environment. |
How does the endocrine system/glands influence the functions of the cells/organs? | The endocrine system regulates how much of each hormone is released. This can depend on levels of hormones already in the blood, or on levels of other substances in the blood, like calcium. Many things affect hormone levels, such as stress, infection, and changes in the balance of fluid and minerals in blood. Hormones act as catalysts to affect the physiological activities of other cells in the body. A hormone will produce a reaction in the target cells, either stimulating or inhibiting function. |
